A study to which Dr. Francesco Marra collaborated ranked third in the ADIA Lab call for Best Paper Award in Climate Data Science

14.07.2025

The paper “A Method to Assess and Explain Changes in Sub-Daily Precipitation Return Levels From Convection-Permitting Simulations”, published in the journal Water Resources Research in 2024, ranked third in the ADIA Lab call for Best Paper Award in Climate Data Science.

The competition was launched by ADIA (Artificial Intelligence and Digital Applications Lab) - an independent, Abu Dhabi-based research center dedicated to basic and applied research in data and computational science - with the goal to highlight and promote the significant role of data science in the field of climate science. The award consists in a prize of $100,000 to be divided among three winning papers.

Dr. Francesco Marra from the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padua participated in the study together with the colleagues Prof. Antonio Canale from the Department of Statistical Sciences, Prof. Marco Borga and Dr. Eleonora Dallan from the Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry, Prof. Marco Marani, from ICEA Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, Dr. Bardia Roghani from NMBU - Norwegian University of Life Sciences and Dr. Giorgia Fosser from the University School for Advanced Studies of Pavia.

Dr. Francesco Marra is a researcher at the Department of Geosciences at the University of Padua. His research primarily focuses on hydrology and climatology, with a particular emphasis on the statistical analysis of extreme precipitation events and their connection to climate change. He employs advanced modeling techniques and data analysis to enhance the understanding and prediction of intense weather events.

Congratulations to Dr. Marra and all the colleagues who took part in the research, demonstrating the value of multidiscipinary scientific collaborations.
