Francesca da Porto is among the members of the National Commission for Major Risks

On 28 September the National Commission for the forecasting and prevention of major risks was officially established, renewed with a decree signed last 31 August by the Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies, Nello Musumeci, published on 19 September in the Official Journal n.219.

The commission, which will remain in office for the next five years and is chaired by Prof. Eugenio Coccia, is made up of 64 experts from the most prestigious Italian universities and institutes and will support the Department of Civil Protection in eight risk sectors: seismic; volcanic; tsunami; hydraulic, hydrogeological, meteorological and climatic phenomena; forest fires and water deficit; nuclear and radiological; chemical, technological, industrial and transport; environmental and hygienic-sanitary.

Francesca da Porto, full professor of the Department of Geosciences and vice-rector for Sustainability at the University of Padua, was appointed to the commission specialized in seismic risk.
