NEWTON (NEw Window inTO Earth’s iNterior) is a EU project led by the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padova and by project partner INGV. It aims at better reproducing and imaging the Earth's deep interior and dynamics through seismological and geodynamic modeling.
Recently, the research group (principal investigator Prof. Manuele Faccenda) visited Osservatorio Etneo, the INGV section of Catania in the framework of a collaboration established with the seismological group (resp. Dr. Ornella Cocina, Dr. Marco Firetto Carlino, Dr. Maria Catania, Dr. Elisabetta Giampiccolo).
The research activities are expected to enhance via seismic imaging our understanding of the deep and complex structure of Mt. Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe.
NEWTON (NEw Window inTO Earth’s iNterior) is an ERC StG funded project (grant ID:758199)
