PoSalvaMare: the project to monitor river littering in Italy is underway

On Friday, April 4, 2025, PoSalvaMare officially kicks of, a project focused on monitoring and reducing plastic pollution in the Po River, Canalbianco, and Canale Villoresi.
The Department of Geosciences at the University of Padua is involved through the River Lab research group, which will contribute scientific and technological expertise to the initiative.
Coordinated by the Po River Basin Authority (ADBPO), PoSalvaMare is part of the Salvamare Law (Law 60/2022) and brings together research institutions, associations, and local communities to address a global environmental issue with scientific tools and local actions.
The kick-off meeting will take place in Turin at Edit Porto Urbano (Murazzi del Po Gipo Farassino 15), from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and will be followed in the afternoon by a plastic litter cleanup at Giardini Ginzburg, with volunteers from Legambiente and Plastic Free.
The event is open to professionals, citizens, and schools, both in person and online.
Key activities include cleanup campaigns, the installation of floating barriers, satellite data and smart camera monitoring, and educational initiatives for students and teachers via the platform fluviolab.adbpo.it, available from the 2025/2026 school year.
