Data, Pixels and Disasters: Landslides and Floods Seen Through Machine Learning

Two intensive days of training on machine learning applied to optical image analysis and extreme natural events
On May 6–7, 2025, the Departmental Council Room will host the short course Machine Learning for Optical Image Analysis: Focus on Landslides and Floods.
Led by Prof. Filippo Catani and Dr. Sansar Raj Meena, the course is aimed at those interested in deepening their understanding of how machine learning can be applied to optical remote sensing data, with a special focus on monitoring landslides and floods.
The program combines theoretical foundations with hands-on sessions using Python and deep learning libraries, progressing to advanced techniques for processing high-resolution satellite imagery. Participants will gain practical skills for environmental monitoring, risk management, and disaster response.
The course is limited to 25 participants.
