Advisory Board Visit for the “Geosciences for Sustainable Development” Excellence Project
On Friday, 13 February 2026, the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padua will host the visit of the international Advisory Board as part of the Excellence Project “Geosciences for Sustainable Development” (2023–2027), funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and selected within the national programme of Departments of Excellence. The day, dedicated to the Mid-Term Project Update, will take place in the Catullo Room and will begin at 9:30 am.
The Excellence Project addresses major global challenges — including climate change, water and soil resource management, and the energy transition — through an integrated geosciences approach that combines research, innovation, and advanced technological infrastructures.
The Advisory Board is composed of three internationally renowned experts in Earth and environmental sciences: Andrew Binley (Lancaster University, UK), Simon Mudd (University of Edinburgh, UK), and Ruben Snellings (KU Leuven, Belgium), who provide independent scientific guidance and evaluation of the project’s progress.

The programme includes project updates, scientific presentations, PhD flash talks, and visits to the new laboratories and technological facilities developed through the Excellence funding — including digital microscopy, virtual reality classrooms, and HPC/AI infrastructures.
The visit represents an important opportunity for discussion, assessment, and international exchange, highlighting the Department’s commitment to advancing geosciences for sustainable development. The detailed programme is available in the attached poster.
